At the Bubbling Pond Fish Hatchery near Sedona, Arizona, the State Game and Fish rear endangered fish species and stock them in the Colorado River system where many native fish species have declined due to dams and introduction of non-native fish species. What I have been always impressed is that the function of the state hatchery system has been changed from propagating non-native fish to stock for the sport fishing to the native ecosystem conservation. The project here in Sedona involves not only the State Game and Fish but also the Fed's such as Park Service and BLM from Arizona as well as Nevada. The sucker grown here are stocked at the size of 12 inches (30 cm). The species is long-lived and can live as long as 20-30 years even in the wild.
